Default About the problem of overpriced items...

Why does a.net not implement a weapons and shield crafter NPC that offers every single skin in the game? Common skins would be crafted for cheap, while rare skins would be a bit more expensive. This would completely get rid of the grind in this game because quite simply, grinding/farming for gold would not even be necessary since everything can be bought from the NPC. Players would be able to suit their RPG character with any gear they want to without having to farm for months in order to shell out the big bucks for that rare skin. This would also cut down on the ebay gold business since outlandish amounts of gold would not be needed anymore. I know some of you people say that this would destroy the economy, but with this idea, an economy between players would not even be necessary since everything can be brought from the NPC for reasonable amounts of gold.

There would be no economy if every skin is available at a crafter. It's the fact that skins are rare that players will play certain areas, in hopes that they'll get that one drop that will be awesome. If everyone had a Celestial Bow or Zodiac Axe etc... then it would get boring.

The ebay gold will always be there if there are bots.

Then people would farm gold.

...If you have gold.

If you want to remove farming from the game, remove gold, and just let NPCs at any given location give to you whatever it is you want. Anything. That would completely destroy the in game economy, make gold and trading pointless, would make farming also pointless (just get rid of random drops while you're there), and would reduce grinding to a minimum.

And a lot of people would hate that.

I would love it, though. Especially because this...

...Wouldn't work that way. If everything had the same value, if all the items were as easy to afford as the next one, we would see much more variety - some things are more popular than others simply because they're rare, or because they are the latest fashion. With these two things gone...People would be more prone to choose by themselves, instead of following a trend.

To some, yes.

To you, obviously not.

The 500k skin represents value. It means something. It shouldn't be available to all players.

many people have fun in different ways, it may be from getting high to hacing bondage with your next door neighbor (remove if you feel the need :P ) People like to grind for money and items, you cant speak for them and tell them whats fun and whats not.

Also why do you people even give a shit if there is an economy or not? Do you actually LIKE spamming the trade channel with WTS or WTB rather than playing the game?

Arena Net sort of can, though. It's their game (we have been allowed to play in there, but it is their game). Just like they have decided that they don't want their players to grind from level 1 to level 1000000 (despite how many people would like that), they could decide that they don't want their players to grind from 1k to 10000k.

Yes. Some people like to do exactly that.

Some like to buy things at low prices and sell them for high prices, thinking how they are smart for doing that.

Some want the most expensive thing, regardless of what it looks like, just to show how much money (and "how cool") they are.

Some just think that, since they had to "work" to get what they have today, everyone should have to work like that.

Some believe that the fact they can grind for longer and harder than more people make them deserve better things - and if you don't grind like they do, it's your choice.

And etc...I obviously don't agree with any of the above (as is obvious in my somewhat bitter tone), but some people like those things, and apparently Arena Net doesn't have a problem with it, so...

I actually consider trading in GW to be a sport.

The ultimate extreme sport of actually finding a buyer or seller with the item you want at the price you want.

I guess im just a shopper :P Well..i am a girl so ya.

anyways....i agree with the above posts.

The GW economy is already somewhat limited because of the nature of the no-grind, combat-based game. Skins do not affect your gameplay, and therefore provide some facet of "grind" and marketting for players that enjoy that sort of thing. It's a loophole that I feel adds to the game, and attracts players it might not otherwise. FoW armor exists for its aesthetics, making clear that the game developers have no problem with the need to "work" for those shiny unreachables.

Arrow not a problem

Every RPG needs to have some rare hard to aquire items, that appeals to many, some to buy it, others to aquire it through complex questing, why would anyone attempt a difficult quest if there was not some nice drop at the end? What would be your motivation? Why would you do "The Deep" or "Urgotz" etc. It's what RPG's are about, discovery - finding something new, new area, new way to do something, new items etc. You don't have to buy it but if you want to then you have several choices:

1- You earn the item for yourself.

2- You earn the cash to buy it at the sellers price - this is what you were trying to do but having a problem- so do #1 then.

3- buy a cheaper but similarly modded weapon, or mod one yourself since thier damage output will be the same-true it won't look the same but u don't "NEED" it.

4 -do nothing.

You don't -need- the rare skinned items. Enough said.

Functionality > Appearance any day.

True, but then people would stop playing if everyone had the same old thing. It's why theres 1.5k armors and 15k armors. So thus there are junk looking twigs for weapons and really awsome looking weapons.

It's just to keep players playing, GW has enough room for all the people that come here to play their way. (Just not the bots...)

I've been a blue user since day one (got a 20/20 collectors holy staff from someone in Piken for 500g) and I personally prefer to show off my economic standing through expensive armor and complex dye mixes, but that's just me.

I'd be happy to weild a 20% Recharge +5^50 Carboard toilet tissue tube...

Either your farm the gold to get the skin you like or you brush it off and continue with your life.

for me its not so much as trying to get the rare drop for cash as it is to be able to say i got the drop, if i pick up an uber rare drop, i tend to keep them anyway..
